After almost twelve years and five recorded albums, we feel it is a natural time to announce that BBC will take an indefinite leave of absence at the end of this year. It has been such an amazing run!

Dear Friends and Fans of Celtic Music,

Happy Thanksgiving! We are grateful for all your support, both at shows and in your online spirit. From the Philly Folk Fest to the Celtic Classic, the Maryland Irish Fest, and every show in between, thanks for cheering us on. You make it all worthwhile.

We have some wonderful news to share with you, our musical family.

Rose is engaged to be married to Brian Buchanan in June 2017!

Yes, these two young musicians met ten years ago and then continued to cross paths on multiple stages and festivals along their musical journeys; Rose with BBC and Brian with his band, Enter the Haggis.

If you have been following our newsletters for a while, you may remember one particular story from February 2014. Heavy fog had caused Lou and Pete's plane to be delayed to Kansas City, on route to the Folk Alliance International Conference. The delays prevented their arrival in time for BBC's formal showcase. It was 30 minutes till showtime.

Kismet was in charge that day. Brian happened to be at the conference and at Rose's urgent bidding, he agreed to jump in with BBC, without rehearsal, and carry off the performance. It was a resounding success.

It may be that a special chord was struck that afternoon. By the end of that year, Brian moved from Toronto to Philadelphia. Since then, the two have formed House of Hamill, an artistic partnership producing a steady stream of original music and videos. If you have seen or heard any of this content, you have definitely witnessed their shared sense of humor!

This past September they released their first album of original music, "Wide Awake". The day before their CD release party, Brian's mom traveled down from Ontario to attend. It was on that evening that Rose and Brian surprised both families with the announcement of their engagement. It was a happy occasion, indeed!

Going forward, the two of them will continue to perform with their respective bands, as well as book shows together as House of Hamill. By all indications, there will be lots more beautiful music to come!

It means so much that you have come along with us this far, and we can't wait to share all the ongoing musical pursuits with you.

Dear Friends and Fans of Celtic Music,

Summer Greetings All! It was a blast to see so many familiar faces at the Penn-Mar Irish Fest and the Celtic Fling. A special shout-out goes to all our new friends from the Greenville Scottish Games!

Today, we are thrilled to announce some new venues added to our 2016 calendar, as well as many beloved favorites. Grab some iced tea and mark in those dates!

2017 will bring some changes, with the band booking more selective, limited engagements. While all the members are commited to continuing Burning Bridget Cleary's musical venture, everyone's life committments continue to bloom and grow. (Yep, that's from "Edelweiss"!)

Rose will be completing her Master's Degree and launching a parallel career in counseling. House of Hamill, her musical duo with Brian Buchanan, will continue as a part-time project. She also plays music with her boyfriend, Max and many other musicians in the NY area. They will often be found on Monday nights from fall to spring at the Iona Scottish Sessions in Brooklyn.

And the guys? Pete's family and drum business continue to grow. You may be surprised to learn that Pete is a busy drummer outside of our BBC family. And Lou - well, he becomes more of a devoted pizza and pistachio connoisseur every year. It's an all-consuming business!

We would not be here without YOU, our lovely friends and fans, familiar faces and sweet newbies. We are deeply grateful for your love, encouragement and support for the past 10 1/2 years!

We look forward to seeing your smiling faces soon.

For the leader of Burning Bridget Cleary, none of the enthusiasm for the band or traditional Irish music has waned.

"I feel like I'm more excited now," says Rose Baldino, singer and fiddler, extraordinaire. "I feel like I have a better grasp of things concerning the music industry. I'm older now, so I'm taking a lot more control, promoting myself and pushing our brand. I still love it. I still feel like it's still the number one thing in my life that I enjoy."

The band will celebrate the release of its fifth CD, "These Are the Days," as it also celebrates St. Patrick's Day and its 10th anniversary during a performance at the MusikfestCafé in Bethlehem on March 17.

"I hope everyone is prepared to have fun and to laugh and clap along," says Baldino, during a telephone interview from her home outside Philadelphia. "We're having some dancers come from the Parker School of Irish Dance. We're going to be giving out free T-shirts and CDs.

"We don't want people to stare at us while we play music. We want to engage people to have fun."

Despite the macabre roots of the name — Bridget Cleary was a strong-willed and fashionable Irish woman who was burned and murdered by her husband who claimed she was a witch possessed by evil fairies — the band is known for fun, energetic and engaging performances.

Traditional jigs, reels and ballads, along with some original songs of similar style, are at the heart of what Burning Bridge Cleary does. But the new record shows growth and some new musical influences.

This album shows more of a jazz influence in tracks "Return of Skelly Shelly," which was written by Baldino's father, Lou Baldino, the band's guitarist, and "Bill Oja's Waltz," which was written by Brian Buchanan, fiddler and guitarist for Canadian Celtic group Enter the Haggis, and Baldino's boyfriend.

"It's not Celtic at all, but [Return of Skelly Shelly] ended up being one of my favorite tracks on the album," Baldino says. "I just love that style of music. I'm so glad [both songs] ended up on the album, because I smile every time I hear them."

Buchanan has of late been a big influence on her music, Baldino says. They formed a side project, House of Hamill, a duo with an eye on putting a more modern twist on Celtic music. Baldino calls it "alternative pop rock with an Irish influence."

"I feel like I've had ideas over the years where I was like 'this would be cool,' but my band would never perform this because it would honestly be weird," Baldino says. "So this is an outlet we're both having for things we wouldn't do in our own bands."

That said, Baldino, 26, says she has no desire to stop playing traditional Irish music with Burning Bridget Cleary.

"I love it. I'm enjoying it in a different way than I have before," she says. "Before I was obviously excited. I was so new and I so young and probably naïve, but in a good way."

Some things have changed since the band formed in 2006. Baldino's original fiddling and singing partner, Genna Gillespie, left at the end of 2011 to pursue international studies. She's now in another Celtic band, Poor Man's Gambit, which plays down the street March 17 at Godfrey Daniels in Bethlehem.

Gillespie was replaced with Deirdre Lockman, who had once been Baldino's fiddle teacher. In 2014, Lockman was replaced with Amy Beshara, another experienced fiddler and singer from the New York area.

Peter Trezzi, a percussionist who joined the group in 2008, rounds out the lineup.

"I feel like we have a really strong lineup of players," Baldino says. "Amy is with us almost two years, and she's absolutely phenomenal. Each person who joins, they bring something new to the band, a different style, different influences. It's been really cool."

The band continues to have success.

Released in November, "These Are the Days" became the most-played record on folk radio programs, with three songs off the album being among the four most played during the month of January.

The band's previous album, 2013's "Pressed for Time," hit No. 1 on the Roots Music Folk and Roots Charts, and was among the most-played records for folk DJs. The third album, "Totes for Goats" was formally entered into the Traditional Irish Music Archives in Dublin, Ireland in 2011.

The band is planning its second musical trip to Ireland in April.

Baldino, who is studying for a master's degree in counseling, says she has no plans to stop playing music professionally or to end Burning Bridget Cleary.

"As of right now, we're doing really well and I'm obviously proud of everything we've done," she says. "There's no plan to stop anything right now. But you know I feel like everything can run its course. I'm older now and of course my dad's getting older, and he might not want to play as much.

"It's something I've thought about over the last couple of years. If the band's going to run its course, then that's OK too."

At the same time, music will always be her biggest passion, she says.

"If I ever had to quit everything to do music, I would probably do it," Baldino says. "It's the one thing in my life that I am just so sure of and so in love with. So, yeah, I would say this would be a lifelong obsession."

It is with great joy that we announce our fifth album, “These Are the Days,” is complete!

Although the formal release date is December 30th, the CD is available now, exclusively through CD Baby.

The new album features our familiar “Burning Bridget Cleary musical style,” delivered through a range of lyrical Celtic and folk tunes; from traditional to contemporary to original. And we had the great good fortune to have been joined for this project by stellar guest artists like Brian Buchanan of Enter the Haggis, accordion-master John McGillian, and Portherhead, a wonderful young trad band from Galway.

If you were one of the 217 backers who helped launch this project through Kickstarter or, if you pre-ordered the CD at a live show, we've got you covered! Keep your eye on your mailbox for a pre-Thanksgiving arrival.

Burning Bridget Cleary is included in the “Top 20” list of international Celtic bands for 2014 published by Marc Gunn, an award-winning podcaster nicknamed the “Celtfather.” In March, the SE Pennsylvania-based Burning Bridget Cleary begins their tenth year performing at Celtic and folk venues and festivals.

“What an honor! It has been an incredible journey since 2006, when we got our first invitation to play at the Green Lane Scottish-Irish festival. We played five hours each day under a tiny gazebo at that festival, and we still have people come up to us at shows that remember seeing us for the first time on that weekend. We’re so thankful to all our fans, who continue to come out, and bring their friends and family to our performances.”

Did you notice a new face? Yes, Deirdre gave her notice last spring, after landing a full time career job. We are very grateful for the two years she shared her talents with BBC and we wish her every happiness and success in the future. We know she'll continue to do great things!

Since September, fiddler/vocalist, Amy Beshara, has been featured regularly with us. Amy is an integral player in the Scottish fiddle circle of NYC and an established music teacher in the Montclair, NJ area. We are delighted to have found her after an extensive search - we have Pete to thank! If you have not yet met Amy, we can’t wait to introduce her.

Dear Friends and Fans of Celtic Music,

The long winter is over and the birds are singing again! We hope you are all feeling like spring chickens in a field of daffodils! Thanks to all of you who braved the polar temperatures to come see us over the past months. Our fans are certainly an intrepid lot!

The December Steel City Coffee House show was cancelled due to snow and ice, but the rescheduled evening in February was sold-out! Also in February, we travelled to Kansas City for a formal showcase opportunity at the Folk Alliance International Conference. Weather conditions kept Lou and Pete's flight grounded all day and they entirely missed the showcase. Oh no! Fortunately, the musical community stepped in and did some magic. Our new heroes, Brian Buchanan (Enter the Haggis) and Cheryl Prashker (Runa) filled in the band; the Stray Birds lent us their fiddle mics, and Bob Gramann lent us a handmade guitar. The 30 minute showcase went off without a hitch and the day was saved!

For Immediate Release:

February 14, 2014

HARLEYSVILLE, PA -- "Pressed for Time" Nominated for International Music Award

Burning Bridget Cleary, the high-energy Celtic band from suburban Philadelphia, has been nominated for another international music award; this time for their song "Oh My Little Darling / Fire On the Mountain" from their newest album "Pressed for Time."

The Celtic Radio Music Awards is a program sponsored by Boston-based Highlander Radio to acknowledge and promote exceptional Celtic music. Nominations for this award are made throughout the year by listeners and members of Celtic Radio. This year nearly 700 songs were reviewed. After a careful screening process based upon listener nominations, ratings, requests, and other radio statistics, three songs were selected in six categories for community voting. Categories are Celtic Rock, Traditional, Jigs & Reels, Contemporary, Bagpipes and Roots Traditional.

In addition to awards for each song category, one album will be awarded the Celtic Radio Album of the Year. In 2009, Burning Bridget Cleary was the recipient of that top award for their second CD, “Everything is Alright.” Voting for the current award program is open through March 17, 2014 at: http://www.celticradio.net. Awards will be announced on St. Patrick's Day.

Fiddler and vocalist, Rose Baldino, commented on the honor,

“This is amazing news and it’s funny in an ironic sort of way. The song that was nominated - “Oh My Little Darling” - is an old-timey song. It’s the only non-Celtic song on our album. But, it must be a favorite with radio because Fiona Ritchie, host of NPR’s internationally syndicated show, “Thistle and Shamrock,” also chose it to play it on her program. So if it meets her approval for Celtic radio, we’ll take it!”

Burning Bridget Cleary has enjoyed a string of successes lately. In December, Burning Bridget Cleary was also nominated as “Top Traditional Group in a Pub, Festival, or Pub” by the Irish Music Association. Their 2013 release, “Pressed for Time hit #1 on the Roots Music Folk and Roots Country Charts in August. It also spent three summer months in the top ten of the Folk-DJ radio charts and ended the year as one of the most played albums of 2013.

This week (2-20-14), the band members will travel to Kansas City, MO, where they have been invited to showcase at the Folk Alliance International Conference. Their touring expanded in 2013 from Buffalo to Michigan to Tennessee and recent shows have been attracting sell out crowds.

Long time fans may remember a newsletter from several years ago with an April Fools subject line about hitting the charts.
Some excellent reviews have been rolling in. Walt Haake of WDVR's Celtic Sunday Brunch had this to say:

“The album is a triumph! Really, after just one listening I can tell you it hits all the right notes with me. The arrangements, performances, production and sequencing all come together in a way that makes for a wonderful listening experience. It's adventurous, intelligent, playful and ever so satisfying.

What a truly remarkable accomplishment. I can't wait to get it on the air, not only on Celtic Sunday Brunch, but my other show, "Wednesdays with Walt." I want everyone to get a taste of it.

By the way, it's not like me to gush over new recordings. It just so happened that this one knocked my socks off.”

Dear Friends and Fans of Celtic Music,

Greetings on this splendid May Day! We hope you are all happy and enjoying this gorgeous season.

Thanks to everyone who came out to our March shows, making them such a success! April was a whirlwind of recording, a CD photo shoot, and a remodeling of BBC Headquarters (a.k.a. our little office).

We also took a blustery drive to Muskegon, Michigan, where we were honored to play a showcase for the North American Irish and Celtic Festival Organizers. By all accounts, BBC was a hit, so with any luck we will be stretching our wings in a westerly direction in months to come.

Big Announcement! Our fourth CD, “Pressed for Time”, is going into production in just two weeks. It’s a grand mix of some favorites from the stage like “Ashokan Farewell”, “On a Sea of Fleur de Lis”, “Oh My Little Darling”, and, of course, “Pressed for Time”. There will be some surprises, too, that we hope will delight. As Rose likes to say, “It’s gonna be a good one!”

Well, it’s time to wrap this up because, as usual, we are pressed for time . . . time to pack the pajamas and toothbrush for another overnight session of mixing and mastering music at Cambridge Sound Studios.

We look forward to seeing many of you at the CD release party! There are some great festivals this spring that you can check out below. And until we meet again, fare thee well.

First and foremost: THANKS to everyone who came out to the festival shows this summer and fall! We were warmly welcomed from Maryland to Buffalo and everywhere in between. The 25th Annual Celtic Classic was extra special this year, with weather cooperating and record crowds - fantastic!

Happy Halloween or Samhain: The Start of the Celtic New Year! As the leaves rustle in the wind, it’s the perfect time for some spooky reading. May we suggest:

"The Cooper’s Wife is Missing: The Trials of Bridget Cleary"

by Joan Hoff and Marian Yeates.

Author and educator Joan Hoff, recently wrote to us to inquire if we had written any songs that included the Irish children’s rhyme:

Are you a witch

Are you a fairy

Are you the wife

Of Michael Cleary?

Well, Joan, we'll put that in our musical thinking caps. Most of you may already know that there are tunes commenorating the story of Bridget Cleary on our first two CD's.

Our fourth CD is in the works, with a tentative Spring 2013 release date. Deirdre will return from Rome in six short weeks, and the recording sessions will begin flowing again.
Samhain

“Samhain marks one of the two great doorways of
the Celtic year; for the Celts divided the year into two seasons: the light and the dark, at Beltane on May 1st and Samhain on November 1st. Some believe that Samhain was the more important festival marking the beginning of a whole new cycle, just as the Celtic day began at night; for it was understood that in dark silence comes whisperings of new beginnings, the stirring of the seed below the ground. Whereas Beltane welcomes in the summer with joyous celebrations at dawn, the most magically potent time of this festival is November Eve, the night of October 31st, known today, of course, as Halloween.

Apple Magic

At the heart of the Celtic Otherworld grows an apple tree whose fruit has magical properties. Old sagas tell of heroes crossing the western sea to find this wondrous country, known in Ireland as Emhain Abhlach (Evan Avlach) and in Britain, Avalon. At Samhain, the apple harvest is in, and old hearthside games, such as apple-bobbing, called apple-dookin’ in Scotland, reflect the journey across water to obtain the magic apples.

Dookin’ for Apples

Place a large tub, preferably wooden, on the floor, and half fill it with water. Tumble in plenty of apples, and have one person stir them around vigorously with a long wooden spoon or rod of hazel, ash, or any other sacred tree.

Each player takes their turn kneeling on the floor, trying to capture the apples with their teeth as they go bobbing around. Each gets three tries before the next person has a go. Best to wear old clothes for this one and have a roaring fire nearby so you can dry off while eating your prize”.

A Traditional Samhain Blessing

May the ancestors deliver blessings on you and yours...

May the new year bear great fruits for you...

May your granted wishes be as many as the seeds in a pomegranate...

May the slide into darkness bring you light...

May the memories of what has been keep you strong for what is to be...

May this Samhain cleanse your heart, your soul, and your mind!

Greetings All! We hope you are all keeping cool at your backyard slip and slides!

"Kind of New" News: If you're not on Facebook, you may not have heard that, beginning in June, BBC has been joined by fiddler extraordinaire, Deirdre Lockman. Unfortunately, the demands of Kat's recent job promotion limited her availability for BBC activities, but we have been lucky enough to find an amazing talent to complete our lineup!

We have a wonderful connection with Deirdre. She was Rose's first Celtic fiddle-style teacher, beginning in 2002, when the girls were just 12 1/2 and 14 years old. Deirdre has been a long-time member of the Lockman Family Musicians and Dancers from Telford, PA. She fiddled, sang and danced with her mom, dad, and six brothers and sisters at many regional venues, and was a multiple first place trophy winner at the Celtic Classic fiddle competitions.

We welcome Deirdre for upcoming shows!

Here’s the Recent Press Release:

Burning Bridget Cleary, the award winning Celtic band based in SE Pennsylvania, has completed filming their first music video production.

The short film features a new Burning Bridget Cleary arrangement of a traditional Irish tune, “Stor Mo Chroi” (trans. “Darling of my Heart”).

The film depicts a fairy-tale fantasy of young love set in both present and past.

Film locations include Cambridge Sound Studios and Cuttalossa Farm, both in Bucks County, PA.

Film Producer/Director: Ray Baldino, Ray Baldino Studios, Cocoa Beach, Florida

Musical Sound Engineer: Jim Salamone, Cambridge Sound Studios, Newtown, PA

This film has been a project of great passion and collaboration. Lou's brother, Ray Baldino, a master photographer/videographer, was the first point of inspiration when he mentioned he would love to do a film project with BBC. The recording process of the "Stor Mo Chroi" (store-mo-CREE) song was already in the works, so it was a natural to back the movie.

Jim Salamone, owner of Cambridge Sound Studios, mixed and mastered the "Stor Mo Chroi" recording and quickly invited us to use the Newtown recording studio as a backdrop for filming the modern scenes. In February, Cheryl began gathering costumes and researching film locations for the scenes set in the olden days.

A friend of the band suggested Cuttalossa Farm in Lumberville as an ideal location for the outdoor shots. Cuttalossa Farm was formerly the home and studio of the Pennsylvania impressionist painter, Daniel Garber. The present owners have spent 35 years cultivating the property into a living masterpiece. It's setting has a magical, verdant quality that evokes old Ireland. They were gracious and welcoming to the film idea, so an April 15th date was set - no raindate! Fortunately, the weather cooperated fully, with just a few perfect raindrops to set the scene.

Other film locations included the Newtown historic district and the old Rushland train station.

Dear Friends,

We thought you should know that our dear friend and band mate, Genevieve Gillespie, has chosen a new path on her life's journey. Genevieve has decided to focus on her studies abroad and will be leaving the band after their 2011 season. This will mark the first lineup change since Pete joined as our drummer in 2008.

This talented young woman has grown up in our midst, contributing so much to BBC’s growth and development. She will be missed dearly by all of us. We wish her every possible success. Genevieve will be with BBC to perform at their last three shows of 2011.

On Sunday, August 7th, Gene Shay invited us to be the featured live band on his "Philly Folk Festival Preview Show." What an honor! We worked up a new song, too . . . a blue-grassy number that we broke out on his show for the first time. Gene has truly been a pal, inviting us multiple times to play on his show. (This year will also be Gene's 50th Folk Fest anniversary as acting emcee)!

The next morning, we headed up to WXLV 90.3 FM in the Lehigh Valley and spent a hilarious hour with Maureen McGrath on her morning drive-time program, ”Reenie’s Adventures in Radio”, heard Mondays through Fridays from 6-9 AM. We squeezed around one mic that morning, because the Musikfest had rounded up all the available equipment in town; but for our next visit, Reenie has promised us a real live performance from their state-of-the-art broadcast studio. Stay tuned, Stupid Babies! (Don't blame us, Reenie taught us that).

This Thursday (8/18), "Down Jersey Jim" Albertson will play an extended 20 minute set of our music on his show on WVLT from 9-10 PM. You can tune in to 92.1 FM in the South Jersey/Philadelphia/Wilmington region, or stream it from your computer. Jim has been playing BBC every week for the past month, leading up to the Philly Folk Fest! Thanks, Jim! (The show is also archived for "anytime" listening).

We hope you are all enjoying some summer living, creating lasting memories with your family and friends.

Ireland is now a beautiful dream! Back in May, we travelled from Dublin through Tipperary to Kinsale, Killarney, Galway City and Bunratty, playing at seven different venues, meeting new friends, and enjoying the gorgeous land and seascapes along the way. Our sightseeing was embellished by almost every type of weather, including gale force winds, soaking rains, and brilliant sunshine, often within the space of a day.

We especially want to thank our travelling companions, who put up with our shenanigans , cheered us on at our shows, and are forever a treasured part of the BBC family.

One of the tour highlights was visiting the 19th Century home of Bridget Cleary. As many of you know, we had made contact with the private owners of the "Fairy Cottage" as it is locally known, back in 2007, when we left a copy of our first CD, Catharsis, for them to discover behind a boarded-up window.

The cottage has since been renovated by the new owners, John and Catherine, who graciously invited the band to come see their home, taking off a day of work, and personally driving us from the village of Cloneen. Their generous Irish hospitality even extended to the rest of the tour group, who were provided a homemade lunch at the local pub, just across the road from the cemetery where Bridget Cleary was laid to rest.

Another high point of our week was a visit to an ancient fairy fort. However, we were not allowed to step one foot around the ring without agreeing to strict rules, followed by a serious admonishment from Tom, our tour driver,

"If anything bad happens to me in my life, I'll know who to come to"!

This was his warning about the risk of rule breaking! Before we left the fort, we all held hands while he said a blessing in Gaelic to keep us protected. At that moment, the wind kicked up so strong that his words were carried away. Afterwards, the bus ride was hushed indeed for the next portion of our journey. We learned that the majority of the Irish people share his view that "it's not worth the risk" to disturb the fairy places.

The musical experiences in Ireland were equally extraordinary! In every town, at every venue, BBC was appreciated and welcomed with open arms. Rose and Genevieve made new Irish musician friends, who are touring around the USA, circling back this week to visit the girls a second time. Their band is called Portherhead and you will surely be hearing more from them in the near future. Check them out on You Tube!

Photos from our adventure can be found on the photo page of this website.

Since 2006, BBC has played hundreds of performances along the East Coast, and produced two CDs. Their second production, “Everything is Alright” was named “2009 Album of the Year” by Boston-based CelticRadio.net. Additionally, they placed first in two individual categories: “Contemporary” and “Jigs and Reels”. Their highly anticipated third CD is scheduled for release in March. Infamous for their captivating sound and merry stage presence, Burning Bridget Cleary has become one of the hottest young bands on the Celtic and folk circuits.

We now have a target date for release of the new CD: St. Patrick's Day, 2011!

March 17th will be our fifth anniversary as a working band, so it seems an auspicious time for our official release. We must thank Flip and Katie for asking us to perform at their annual St. Patty's Day House Party back in 2006. This was BBC's first gig, and where we have played every year since then . . . it has become our good luck tradition!

Of course, we'll have a couple of grand CD release parties to celebrate with all of you! We are planning for two: one in Philly, and one in the Lehigh Valley. Stay tuned!

Possible Side Effects: Going on this tour with BBC may cause uncontrollable fits of hilarity; lucid visions of mythical creatures/little people/pink elephants; obsessive-compulsive preoccupation with umbrellas; chronic yearning for faraway shores; sudden, unexplained understanding of James Joyce novels; urgent cravings for bangers, rashers, or black pudding; and a newfound propensity towards "lilting".

The award program was expanded in 2008 to include the Celtic Radio Album of the Year. This award is given to acknowledge musical creativity and extraordinary work on an album which provides recognition of exceptional contributions to Celtic Music. Winner of this award category receives permission to use the Radio Music Award banner on their website, receives the esteemed and prestigious framed Celtic Radio Award and a beautiful black and gold embossed award plaque. Through the Celtic Radio Music award program our goal is to promote and recognize exceptional artists who display high standards of excellence and who have made significant contributions to Celtic Music throughout the world.

The Artists:

"Rose Baldino and Genevieve Gillespie met eight years ago as pre-teens at a traditional Irish music session in Bethlehem, PA. Both come from musical families (Genna’s parents are founding members of the Celtic band, Blackwater) and both have been first place trophy winners at the Celtic Classic fiddle competitions. (In September 2009, they graduated to the role of judges for this competition). The natural pairing of these talented young women, backed on guitar by veteran musician, Lou Baldino, and joined by Peter Trezzi on djembe, has created a polished musical team with a fun, engaging stage presence and a captivating sound. A surefire crowd-pleaser!

Burning Bridget Cleary is an energetic Celtic group featuring traditional music and song. Both Rose Baldino and Genna Gillespie have been playing since they were 10. Lou Baldino, a veteran in the music business, had a guitar in his hands at age 5. Their "Everything is Alright..." album is top notch and shows the talent and pure fun this group had in making such a wonderful album. We absolutely love Burning Bridget Cleary's "Everything is Alright" album and would highly recommend this CD to add to your Celtic Music collection. This CD has the depth and character of musicians many years advanced to their young ages and we will be very much anticipating their future recordings. 5 Golden Celtic Radio stars for "Everything is Alright" along with the honor to be designated as our Celtic Radio Album of the Year for 2009!

All members and listeners of Celtic Radio can take pride in the fact that through our website and music channels, that we are making a difference in helping to promote Celtic Music through this award program. By bringing musicians, listeners and members together, we can truly make a difference through our unique social networking site called 'Celtic Radio.

Hey everyone!
I can't believe it's been months since the last update. Strange! Well we had a few shows recently, and they all were great fun. The steel city coffee house was lovely as always, and thank you all to coming out to the firebird festival in phoenixville. Also we had a show at George School which was phenomenal. We had a really fantastic time, and all of the students and staff were so friendly and had great energy. (Thank you John Stevens for letting us sit in your lap-it's love!) An awesome show. This past weekend we played at WDIY's 15th Birthday Bash on the radio and for all the members. Funsiez! Well we obviously are so excited for this coming year. We have an awesome show on April 17th with Tempest and Coyote Run at the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville-get excited. This summer we're taking a small tour down south to Tennessee, North Carolina and Virginia, so all you people down south, keep an eye out for some madness! We are beyond pumped little chickens and are soooo excited to tour. The new CD is coming along, and although it may take awhile, we'll try and put a few of the new songs on the website before the release. BBC has also been nominated for two Celtic Radio Music Awards! Here is the website-http://www.celticradio.net/. So sign up, and vote for us! Lastly, I just want to say that, as the entire world is, we're very upset by the earthquake in Haiti, and urge you to donate money to the Clinton Foundation, and the Red Cross to help those in dire need. You can simply text to donate! Just text "Haiti" to 90999. I've done it and I think I'll do it again today! We're such a fortunate and well-off country, and we can all afford to give a little to the victims in Haiti. Well, this is all! We love you guys and we really really really hope to see you lots this year!
Love,
Rose and BBC

Hi! It is autumn and I must say, it is my favorite time of the year. It's gorgeous and of course we can all cozy up in a room and share a lovely night of music and drink together! (Minus the drinking part because Genna and I are like five.) So we have some hot shows coming up.

I must push this Tin Angel show because it is honestly going to be a blast. We have a bunch of fun new material, we may be throwing out a bit of candy and other treats! You really don't want to miss this one! Also we have Chaplin's Music Cafe and of course the Steel City Coffeehouse coming up. So please plan accordingly!

Also, if you haven't already, find us on facebook for more updates, pictures, and exciting announcements you won't get anywhere else! If you don't have a facebook, stop trying to fight the man, and just get one. We also have a street team group if you're interested! It's super easy to use and you'll love it. We promise. Well time to watch America's Funniest Home Videos. Hah! Goodnight loves!

Hey guys and dolls,

So how do you like the new layout? I'd say I love it! Today, we played the Allentown Fair...woo! Me and the rents ate too much icecream, and now we're all downing tums and alka seltzer...fun for us! But not really...it's awful.

Sunday, we play the Pocono Garlic Fest. Ha! That should be fun!

Genna and I are back in school, Genna being in her freshman year and I in my sophomore. Woohooooo for work...So we have started work on our third CD, and although progress is slow at the moment, we hope to swing into full recording mode soon.

There are so many exciting things coming up. One thing I'm mad pumped about is the 2009 Celtic Classic at the end of September. That is like one of my fav fests ever and we have two sets both Friday and Saturday. Also, Genna and I will be judging the celtic fiddle competition on the Sunday of that weekend!

We're also getting excited for the Tin Angel gig on the night of Halloween. Get your tickets anytime! It's honestly going to be an incredible show and we are so happy to be coming back. Keep checking the calendar and feel free to leave comments...we love to hear from you! See you soon! :)

Love, Rose and BBC

Okay, so BBC has some mad exciting things coming up and I personally cannot wait. On Sunday, we're playing at a festival in Bristol, and it's going to be super sweet. Also, this year is insane with all of the awesome venues we're performing at. We have Musik Fest, The Blackstone Valley Fest, The Celtic Classic, The Tin Angel, Steel City Coffeehouse, and my personal fav, The Philadelphia Folk Festival. I have been going to that festival since I was born, and it means so much to me that I get to perform there! Also, keep it on the DL but BBC is getting prepared to start recording a third CD. We have some amazing new material, and great ideas, so we are stoked. Also, Genna and I are going back to the Swannanoa Gathering in North Carolina this year, and will be studying with Martin Hayes, and Kevin Burke, and jamming with the best folk around. Also, if you're on facebook, join the BBC music fan page! Well, we'll keep you updated, but right now I'm going to purchase a frisbee and throw it around my yard...by myself. Hah! Love!

Hey kids,
So guess what. It's almost Summer...and that makes me so happy. We just had some fantastic gigs. We played Siamsa Pub in Stroudsburg...always a favorite. We also played the Braveheart Pub in Hellertown, and met some fine folks who just got married, as well as many others. We also opened up for Enter the Haggis at Colonial Theater in Phoenixville. What a great venue. The crowd was great, ETH was great...really superb. If you look on their video blog on youtube, you'll see us talking to them backstage. Fun for us! There is also talk of starting a new CD...hm so we'll keep you updated on that. Genna is almost done senior year!! I'm almost done Freshman year...wooo, and my session in West Chester is going well. Man, we really have the best audiences, thanks so much for coming out to our shows. We love you guys. Hope to see you this summer!

Hey music listeners,

Burning Bridget Cleary has got some really exciting things in the works for this year! We were recently played on WXPN on the Gene Shay show, and have an interview on his show on this station on February 8. One of the cuts from our new CD was published on Fiona Ritchie's "Thistlepod" podcast last week, so keep an ear out for our music!
Hey kids,
I am currently eating blueberries. This past week has been amazing for the entire band! We took a trip down to Asheville, North Carolina and attended the Swannanoa Gathering's Celtic Week. Genna and I studied with Jim Malcolm and Martin Hayes, and played with tons of other amazing musicians such as Liz Carroll, Aoife Clancy, Billy Jackson, John Doyle, Kevin Crawford, Gerry O'Connor, and John Carty. Genna and I wrote a new song which may possibly be on our next CD due out soon, and we also wrote a new tune. It was honestly one of the best weeks of our lives but it's good to be home.
We have a gig coming up on August 2nd at Brittingham's Pub. Don't disappoint us! I expect to see all of you there decked out in fan gear! Haha kidding...we don't have fan gear...but no seriously be there! If you come we'll play you our new tune...first audience to hear it! See you all there...love!

We really hope to see you over the weekend! Puck is a club like atmosphere (over 21) and will be extremely fun. I had my college music audition this past week and it went really well so we'll see! I also am auditioning for another university for music education so wish me luck yes? I also learned to drive stick shift today hah although I stalled a million times (not good) but alas! I will one day be fantastic at it. Well kids please make it out to one of our shows this weekend you won't regret it!

Hey!
So my family and cousin went to Ireland this past November and it was absolutely fantastic. Genna was busy in her play MacBeth (she was the lead yeah boy!) We basically stayed on the West Coast and it was gorgeous, it was a fantastic trip. We played with Sean Garvey as well as Amergin in Kenmare which was an awesome experience. We also met a few fantastic musicians such as Hugh Healey and John O'Gorman in Ennis at the Old Ground Hotel. That was honestly the must fun session I have ever been to in my life. Everyone was in super high spirits, one guy kept mumbling random things in my ear, another was bleeding all over his guitar, and everyone was dancing. It was the best ever. In the beginning of November, Burning Bridget Cleary got airplay on a variety of NPR stations nationwide. Listen for us! We also have some excellent shows coming up so check out or calendar and get out there! See ya around!

Dear Friends, Happy New Year to all from Lou, Rose, and Genevieve!

We ended 2007 in grand style, taking part in Bethlehem’s spectacular First Night Celebration. Thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate and dance in the New Year! The acoustics at the Salem Lutheran church were stellar! It was a blast! There are some exciting new gigs coming up, and, we want to take this opportunity to share some related “Bridget Cleary” events.

First! This Saturday, January 19th, we’ll be appearing at the SnowBlast Winter Festival Blizzard Ball in Emmaus. (It’s fun just to say that)! The SnowBlast Festival runs Friday night and Saturday with all kinds of family activities – indoors and out. For details and ball tickets, check out their website at www.snowblastwinterfestival.org or call them at 484-201-0026.

Next – an intriguing story about our connection with Bridget Cleary. Most of you have heard Bridget’s cruel story, the story of a lively young woman who fell ill, was accused of being a “fairy witch” by her husband, and was eventually burned to death by his hand. Michael Cleary, and those who passively stood by, were eventually convicted of murder and sent to prison. Thereafter, laws were changed in order to protect women from such terrible acts. Our band, Rose and Genevieve especially, found this a compelling story and one which should be remembered.

This past November, Lou and Rose’s family traveled to Ireland for a long awaited family holiday. Of course, it was a priority mission to find Bridget Cleary’s house! Along the way, asking directions, we found that the cottage is well known among local people as the “Fairy Cottage”. After several u-turns, we found it, on a narrow farm lane, between the little towns of Cloneen and Drangan in Co. Tipperary.

It was unoccupied, with a realtor’s sign out front that read “Sale Agreed”. We recognized it from pictures that we had found on various internet sites – there is no identifying marker. It was a thrilling moment to have found the place and we couldn’t resist looking around the vacant property. (See attached photo of the front door).

On a whim, we left one of our CDs and a note, hoping that the new owners would write us. On Christmas Eve, we got an e-mail with “Fairy Cottage” in the subject line. It was from the brother of the new owners, passing along a message of thanks for the CD and an invitation to tour the house the next time we were in Ireland.

We were excited beyond belief and so thankful for this Christmas greeting! And, this brings us to the next bit of news in Bridget’s ongoing saga.

There is a theater company, from Waterford, Ireland, traveling to NYC this week to put on a play, “Are you the Wife of Michael Cleary?”. Below, I have copied an e-mail from Philip Furnell, the brother of the owners of the fairy cottage. He gives the details about the play (only 6 shows, running Tuesday through Sunday of this coming week). There has been very little, if any, publicity about the production. We are going to drive up on Friday night to see the show.

We know it’s not “around the corner”, but if anyone has friends or relations in the New York area, please pass this on, as we would like to support our Irish friends in their venture to bring this piece of history to life. As John Seraphin says, “We’re all in this together”!

Here’s the e-mail: Hi Lou I spoke to my brother and he will send you some pics. Have you read the book that came out last year about it, there was a tv documentary made from it also. Its very good and has photos of the inside of the house. see here...

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Burning-Bridget-Cleary-True-Story/dp/1844139344/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1200174699&sr=8-1

We all went to Waterford last wednesday night to see the play thats going to new york, "Are you the wife of Michael Cleary". It’s on in the Irish Arts Centre, 553 west 51st street, NY. Tickets at www.smarttix.com It’s on 15th to 20th of January. We spoke to some of the theatre group, and ticket sales are slow so they need people to go!!! We told them about your band and they said they would love to meet you!
Hey kids,

Well we just played at the Cooldog Concert Series this past Sunday and it was absolutely amazing. The house was beautiful and even though it rained, we played in the upstairs concert room. We opened up for Cara, an incredible Celtic band from Germany...and I had the honor of jamming with them a bit after the show. They are absolutely amazing musicians and have the most wonderful personalities so it was such a great gig. This coming Saturday BBC has the Irish Oyster Festival in Reading, so come see us! It's going to be a really great festival...don't forget the Green Lane Scottish/Irish Festival too. I was actually over in Green Lane Park today playing tennis and eating Wawa hoagies with my friend. They seriously have the best sandwiches ever. But the park was already decked out in festival stuff already, and there are about a trillion signs everywhere...so come see us there too. Hopefully we'll see you this Saturday! ~Rose and BBC

Everyone in the entire world,

A huge thank you to everyone who came out and saw us on Saint Patricks Day...and those of you who didn't...no big! There will be plenty of opportunities coming up so don't freak out. The Covered Bridge Inn was supa fun and a big thanks to Ron for making that happen. Also a great thanks to Patrick for the wicked article in the Souderton Independent. So, I (Rose) got a new violin which I am psyched about. Anyone who hit up the Covered Bridge Inn were the first to hear it so good for you! It's a 1976 fiddle (one of about 200) made in Montana by Olaf Andersen and I am basically in love with it. Well everything is going great and make sure you keep checking our news and upcoming dates for shows! Talk to you soon! ~Rose and BBC~

Hello everyone!

We would like to thank every single person who made it to Godfrey Daniels! You all made it a sold-out show which made it super exciting to play there! I know I can speak for all of us when I say that we've been wanting to play an amazing place like this for years. It was really weird because my Dad and I have been there so many times, and yet we managed to get lost for about 45 minutes on the way there. We basically drove around the entire town of Bethlehem and that was hilarious considering in the end we weren't even close to it. No big no big! I hope you all had a great time and leave us comments in our guestbook for they are quite fun to read! I hope we see all of you at our next show at Porter's Pub on January 6th. I hope you all have a superb holiday season, see you soon!

~Rose, BBC
